The photographer William James Topley (1845‒1930) snapped this picturesque landscape, where country life is nestled in the Charlevoix mountains and follows the flow of the river. City folk were somewhat jealous of the habitants who lived year-round in this paradise. However, Charlevoix’s farmlands were admittedly not always the best to farm and the winters were often very rigorous!
