Musée du Bas-Saint-Laurent

By the lilacs

About thirty summer people of all ages, mainly young girls, posing by lilacs.

Members of the LeMesurier family in Kamouraska, 1906.

Private coll. (Andrew Caddell).

Were the LeMesuriers getting ready for a picnic? Since lilacs flower in late spring, this photo was surely taken as cousins and family friends gathered at the beginning of their summer holiday.

This photograph shows just how fashionable it was to wear pale colours out of doors. It is also remarkable to see how children were dressed in miniature versions of adult clothing.
