Montrose Castle has huge porches from which the Allan Line transatlantic ships could be seen in the distance. In the back, there was also a gazebo offering a point of view over the Allan estate and the river. Although this villa was built in 1900 when summer people had started settling closer to the shore, it followed the British tradition of building on a high point.
