Summer people knew their farming neighbours well, often living side by side for years and calling on their services frequently. The children loved visiting the animals (horses, cows, hens, pigs, etc.) and helping to milk the cows. Sometimes, they would go to their neighbours to buy milk, fresh eggs or produce.

When haying time came around, farmers always accepted help. Some summer people, the young and not so young alike, enjoyed working alongside their neighbours for several hours.
