The art of staying clean at all times

A small group getting ready for a canoe trip. Almost all are dressed in white or very pale colours.

A canoe ride on the river in Saint-Patrice (Rivière-du-Loup),1908.

Private coll. (Lindsay Thomson).

This fabulous photo reminds us that during this period, wearing white without getting dirty was the proof of proper manners and high social status. On vacation and out in nature, this clothing must not have been very practical!
