Ink drawing of children riding in a two-wheeled horse cart decorated with branches.

Ink drawing by Gillian Evans.

Reproduced from Tides of Tadoussac by Lewis Evans (1982).

When a neighbouring farmer with a horse and cart was invited on an outing, it was because there were picnic baskets to be carried and that meant the children could climb aboard! Many summer residents have fond memories of rides in horse-drawn carts and, occasionally, even oxcarts.
